Loaner Laptop Program

Autodesk is a proud sponsor of FIRST. Our vision, “To help people imagine, design and create a better world,” intersects beautifully with that of FIRST, “To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders.”
In addition to sponsoring the national championship and the Autodesk Oregon Regional in Portland, Oregon, and providing grants to many teams through sponsorships and awards, we also provide free student access to our complete portfolio of design tools via the Education Community. And, this year, our Lake Oswego office has stepped up with 23 employees who have volunteered to mentor 14 different local teams!
But we understand that, in order to access some of the world’s best design tools, students also need access to computers that will run this powerful software. To that end, Autodesk is establishing a loaner laptop program for 10 needy FIRST teams near our Lake Oswego office. Through this program, if your team applies and is selected, Autodesk will loan your team one laptop, configured with Autodesk software for use during the 2011-2012 FIRST season. We hope that this laptop will enable your team to focus on design as a competitive advantage, and learn to use Inventor to design and build your best robot.
Q: How can we get a laptop for our team?
Q: Can we keep this laptop forever?
A: No, this laptop will be on loan to your team, and signed for by your team’s lead mentor or coach. The laptop must be returned to Autodesk at the end of the season (within 10 days of your last competition, or May 11th, 2012 at the latest).
Q: What happens if we need technical support for the laptop?
A: For Autodesk product support, please contact BuiltByDesignHelp@Autodesk.com. For laptop technical support, please contact the Autodesk Helpdesk at 415-507-8888, or email them at email@example.com.
Q: Can we install anything we want on the laptop?
A: You must leave the Autodesk products installed, but you can also install other design tools that are useful to your FIRST team, provided that you obtain the software legally, you adhere to any and all license agreements, and that you do not install viruses or malware. If your laptop stops working or gets a virus, our IT department will try to help remove it, but may be forced to “wipe” the laptop. Please be careful when considering what to install, and always back up your work.
